North Star Therapy is proud to serve the LGBTQ+ community.

The LGBTQ+ community faces specific and recurring challenges. While not everyone has the same experience, too many people have faced prejudice, discrimination, harassment, denial of human rights, and family rejection. This community struggles with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse at high rates.

Human Rights Advocacy Efforts
Human rights advocacy efforts represent a tireless campaign spanning decades to change policies in support of equality. There has been much to celebrate, with expected setbacks and more ground to cover.

We all must find contentment and satisfaction with this life in whatever way we choose. Whether you are going through transition, have already gone through transition, or have decided not to transition, therapy can help work through associated distress and toward a greater sense of peace and wellbeing.

Gender Non-binary and Non-conforming
The binary system of gender creates feelings of dysphoria for many. Labels are limiting, and they disqualify the fluidity of identities and self-expression.

Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual
LGB adults are more than twice as likely as heterosexual adults to experience a mental health condition. Those who live with mental health problems find themselves battling double the stigma. Therapy is a helpful resource for managing mental health issues.

Community Resources
Metro Wellness Center offers various health and wellness services. They have a calendar of events, some of which are in Tampa and others are at the LGBTQ Welcome Center in St. Pete. They have youth nights on Fridays and Saturdays, and offer various support groups such as overeaters anonymous and domestic violence survivor support group.
